Metropolitan Opera Leading Tenor Eduardo Villa to Star!

Eduardo Villa is one of the world's most sought-after tenors, with notable appearances on leading stages throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.  In January 2002 Mr. Villa made his Metropolitan Opera debut in the title role of Don Carlos, and has since returned for further acclaim in his portrayal of Radames in Aida and Calaf in Turandot.  Since his successful debut Mr. Villa has been heard most recently in Philadelphia as Don Carlo, Riccardo in Un Ballo in Maschera with Michigan Opera Theater, as Calaf in Turandot with Austin Lyric Opera, Radames in Aida with Fresno Opera, Madama Butterfly, Carmen, Der   Rosenkavalier and Die Fledermaus with Munich's Bayerische Staatsoper. Also, collaborating with Maestro Zubin Mehta in Die Fledermaus in Tel Aviv, and then with the Finnish National Opera singing Il Trovatore, Michigan Opera Company for Otello, Aïda at the Todi Music Festival and in New Orleans and Connecticut for Turandot.

Mr. Villa's World-Wide Career

Mr. Villa has been seen throughout North America where he has performed Don José in Carmen with the Houston Grand Opera and Michigan Opera, Il Trovatore with Seattle Opera, Nemorino in L'Elisir d'Amore and Jacopo in I Due Foscari with Opera Hamilton (Canada) and Lucia di Lammermoor with Minnesota Opera.  With Connecticut Opera he has performed as the Duke in Rigoletto, Riccardo in Un Ballo in Maschera, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Don José in Carmen, Alfredo in La Traviata and Manrico in Il Trovatore.  Don José, Manrico and Alfred in Die Fledermaus with Arizona Opera, Calaf in Turandot and Don José with Opera Pacific.  He has  performed Turridu in Cavalleria Rusticana, the Duke in Rigoletto, Manrico Il Trovatore, Rodolfo in La Boheme, Calaf in Turandot and the leading role of Otello all with the Atlanta Opera.   Mr. Villa is one of the few tenors who has sung both Turridu and Canio in Pagliacci for the Toledo Opera.  Mr. Villa made his notable Carnegie Hall debut with the Opera Orchestra of New York as Jacopo in I Due Foscari.  Mr. Villa had a tremendous success with his debut performances of Otello with the Connecticut Opera,  La Gioconda with Florida Grand Opera and Aïda with New Orleans Opera.

Mr. Villa's European career has been just as impressive as his American performances. He recently impressed the German public during the Bayerische Staatsoper's Verdi week celebration, when an ailing tenor cancelled during the third act of Aida and Mr. Villa was called from the audience to finish singing the performance under the baton of Maestro Zubin Mehta.  To his additional credits with the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich he has sung as Des Grieux in Massenet's Manon, the Duke in Rigoletto, Macduff in Macbeth, Rodolfo in La Boheme, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Adorno in Simon Boccanegra, Don José in Carmen, and the title role of Les Contes D'Hoffmann. He has sung with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Nantes (France) and Lusanne (Switzerland) as Pinkerton, in Mannheim as Cavaradossi in Tosca, Arena of Nîmes for Il Corsaro, Hoffmann in Metz, France, Frankfurt and Cologne as Macduff, Viva la Mamma at the Vienna Volksoper, Zurich Oper and Basel Opera- also with the Basel Opera, Adorno in Simon Boccanegra, Turridu in Cavalleria Rusticana, Des Grieux in Massenet's Manon, Fenton in Falstaff, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Manrico in Il Trovatore, Lenski in Eugen Onegin and the title role in Hoffmann, the title role of Offenbach's Blue Beard in Geneva, Paris Opera in the title role of Don Carlos, Rome Opera as Don José and the Verdi Requiem in Aachen, Hielbronn and Basel. In Heidenheim,Germany he has sung the title roles of Otello, Don Carlo and Radames in Aida.
